Cheese Puffs
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
- 1 large egg, beaten (for brushing)
Directions
Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika (if using).
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheese until evenly distributed.
Form the Cheese Puffs:
- Gather the dough into a ball and roll it out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
- Cut the dough into small squares or use a cookie cutter for different shapes.
Brush with Egg:
- Place the cut dough pieces onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the dough pieces with the beaten egg to give them a golden finish.
Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese puffs are golden brown and crisp.
Cool and Serve:
- Allow the cheese puffs to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
