Ingredients

  • 1 package gyoza wrappers store-bought
  • 1 cup ground pork or ground chicken
  • 1 cup cabbage finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth low sodium
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, chopped cabbage, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Place a gyoza wrapper in the palm of your hand and spoon about 1 tablespoon of the filling mixture into the center. Moisten the edges with water, fold in half, and pinch to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, arrange gyoza in a single layer, making sure they do not touch. Cook for about 3-4 minutes or until the bottoms are golden brown.
  • Carefully pour the chicken broth into the skillet, cover with a lid, and reduce the heat to medium. Steam the gyoza for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the liquid has evaporated.
  • Remove the lid, and using a spatula, gently smash each gyoza down to create a crispy base. Let them cook for another 2-3 minutes to achieve extra crispiness.
  • Serve the smashed gyoza hot, garnished with chopped green onions and a drizzle of extra soy sauce if desired.

Notes

Tip 1: Ensure the filling is well-seasoned to enhance the flavors of the gyoza.
Tip 2: These gyoza can be made ahead and frozen before cooking for quick meals later.
Variation: Try using shrimp or tofu for a different protein option.
